Governor Roles

Your Governing Body, in conjunction with the teaching and support staff, parents, pupils and Friends Of School (FOS) form an integral part of the organisation that is Trinity CE Primary School.  The Governors are made up of representatives from the teaching staff, parents and the wider community. They are influential in many areas of school activity ranging from budget formulation, maintenance of building and grounds through to curriculum and staffing issues.  For further information on who the Governors are, please refer to Meet the Governor section.

We meet six times throughout the year as a whole Governing Body and at other times in “Staffing & Curriculum” and “Building & Finance” committees.                          Below you can find a link to the attendance at these meetings for term 2021/2022.

MEET THE GOVERNORS

Conrad Hutton

HEAD TEACHER

Who I am…

I have been headteacher at Trinity since September 2013 having previously been deputy head of a large infant school. I have worked in several schools in and around the Bristol area since starting teaching in September 1995.

I live on the outskirts of Bristol with my three daughters.

What is my role on the Governing Body?…

As headteacher my role is to give the governing board all the information it needs to do its job well towards the strategic development of the school. This entails helping the governing board to access data about the school published by the DfE and Ofsted, and providing whatever management information the board requires to monitor different aspects of life in the school throughout the year so that they may fulfil their role to support and challenge.

I attend all full governing body and committee meetings and report on all aspects of school life and in particular:

  • Pupil learning and progress

  • Pupil applications, admissions, attendance and exclusions

  • Staff absence, recruitment, retention, morale and performance

  • The quality of teaching

Why I wanted to become a School Governor?…

I am automatically a school governor due to my role.

What I enjoy about being a School Governor?…

I enjoy working with a group of people from different backgrounds, often outside of education. The governors provide me with a different lens through which to view the school. I enjoy working with dedicated and committed highly skilled people performing a voluntary role.

Danielle Townsend

CHAIR OF GOVERNORS

Who am I?

I am a mother to 2 children and work in the telecoms industry as a finance manager and data analyst.  I joined the governing board in October 2020.  I am incredibly curious and love learning so always searching for new challenges and learning opportunities. In my spare time I can normally be found pottering in the garden or signing up to some new training course!

What is my role on the governing body?

I am vice-chair, supporting the chair of governors as well as chairing the Finance & Premises subcommittee and sitting on the Ethos Committee.  Due to my professional knowledge, I support the school with budget setting, monitoring and strategy but I am also keen to support pupil & staff wellbeing and understand curriculum improvement.  I was appointed by the diocese as a Foundation Governor to support the Christian foundation of the school through ensuring the vision and values of the school align to those of the Christian faith.

Why did I want to become a school governor?

I wanted to use my professional and personal skillset to help our local school and give back.  In my professional role it can sometimes feel like the difference you make is small or can't really be seen it but as a governor you can see the direct impact your skillset and support have on the pupils and the staff.  I wanted to be able to further support the excellent work all the staff at Trinity do.

What I enjoy about being a school governor?

I enjoy being able to put my skills into action to support the continuous improvement of the school and give back to the community.   You must be creative with how the funds are spent and generated to ensure the children receive the best education possible.  I also enjoy coming into school and embedding as part of the school community, attending collective worship and observing the fun they have while learning.  I love bringing a passion and energy to the board and challenging the status quo.

Rachel Allibone

LOCAL AUTHORITY

Who I am…

My name is Rachel Allibone, I am a Painter & Decorator and have 3 boys, all of whom are or have been pupils at Trinity School.

What is my role on the Governing Body?…

My role on the governing body sits within the staffing and curriculum area specifically with responsibility for Early Years (EYFS).

Why I wanted to become a School Governor?…

I decided to put my name forward to become a governor once my youngest child started reception. I have always been involved in the Friends of School activities and generally supporting fund raising.  Becoming a governor seemed like an obvious next step for me providing an opportunity to get involved in supporting the real nuts and bolts of how our wonderful school works!

What I enjoy about being a School Governor?…

Being a governor is fascinating and has been quite a learning experience for me – I feel I am gaining such a different perspective on how the primary education system works and the pressures schools like ours are under.  Despite still being relatively new to the governing body I already feel that I have gained enormous insight into how hard the team at Trinity work to maintain such high standards in and out of the classroom. I feel very fortunate to be able to support this work at all.

Greg Brogan

CO-OPTED GOVERNOR

Who am I?

I run a Consumer Branding Agency and have 2 boys who both attend Trinity Primary School.

What is my role on the Governing Body?

I am a Co-Opted Governor and sit within the Finance & Premises subcommittee, within which I am also part of smaller Marketing, Wrap Around Care and Health & Safety subcommittees.

Why I wanted to school Governor?

I had wanted to become involved with the school in some way soon after my eldest son started in reception. The role of Governor came up which sounded like the perfect opportunity to understand more of what’s involved in the running of the school and the challenges it brings. Then working out ways in which I might be able to apply my life and work experience in support of the incredibly hard-working staff towards the success of our school and, ultimately, our children’s education and wellbeing.

What I enjoy about being a school Governor?

I am relatively new to the role still, but I am enthusiastic about having the opportunity to offer my support, alongside the hard-working staff and fellow Governors, in helping the school maintain their high standards and giving our children the best possible start in their lives.

Dominic Rennie

CO-OPTED GOVERNOR

Who am I?

I am a Chartered Aerospace Engineer.  I live locally and have two children, one of whom attends Trinity.

What is my role on the Governing Body?

I am a Co-Opted Governor and sit within the Finance & Premises subcommittee. I'm the Link Governor for Health & Safety (Facilities).

Why I wanted to school Governor?

I took up the role to support my local primary school using skills and experience I have gathered over the course of my career. I believe that a successful school contributes to a better community for all.

What I enjoy about being a school Governor?

I enjoy the opportunity to work with enthusiastic volunteers from across our school community. It is a fresh and totally different challenge to my day job.

Mark Edwards

CO-OPTED GOVERNOR

Who am I?

I am a mother to three now grown up children, although my youngest has just left school, so I am ‘empty nesting’ for the first time in 32 years!

After an exciting and demanding career in international business exhibition and events organising, I now run a busy self-catering business that my husband and I opened in 2018.  We also run a small holding and my husband manages our livery yard and both competes and teaches event riding.

Why did I want to be a school governor?

All three of my child benefited hugely from attending brilliant Primary schools. I hope my contribution as governor will help Trinity offer that opportunity to many other children.  I want to use my business skills to help with all aspects of getting the best from funding, communications, and other professional aspects of the school management.

I now feel I have time and certainly the energy to offer my services to the school, staff and parents in this way.

What is my role on as school governor?

I sit on the Finance and Premises Committee, so my involvement at the moment, covers all areas of finance that affect Trinity; reviewing, overseeing and approving the budget, to help with planning future expenditure, and ensuring we get best value on all our purchasing decisions.   I help ensure we have a fair pay policy, and that we meet all statutory and contractual obligations to staff. The F&P committee oversee responsibility for care and maintenance for all grounds and buildings of the school, Health and Safety and to report to FGB and monitor any ongoing maintenance.  Finally, I also work with the other governors to look at the marketing and communications side of Trinity.

I hope later this year to also take up a role at Link Governor for Maths.

What I enjoy about being a Governor

It’s very early days for me, as I only joined in Sept 2022, but so far I’m excited to meet the other Governors, the staff and I’m looking forward to really understanding the character and personality of Trinity, so that I can be sure all my efforts help build on the best of the school and support areas where maybe more help is needed.
